I'm on Fire and Born To Run!
Tuesday, January 12, 2021
Though its 23 F out around 8 AM, far lower than recent memory, I'm on fire and born to run! Today, I had a successful session #2 of my C25K fork. So that I can get a better sense of my progression, I've decided to track the heart rate numbers for my endurance regimen in my 2021 sheet. While I once considered shelving my FitBit since step counts aren't a goal for 2021, my Versa Lite's ability to track specific workouts will play a pivotal role in the upcoming days. Once I've achieved...well, something, I'll shop for a Garmin, but it's got to be a context far beyond runs around my property!
Before I think too far ahead, I still need to plan out my 5Ks for 2021. I really want that St. Jude 5K in December, but beyond that, I've got six slots left to fill. And yes, I know marathons are everyone's go-to running goal, but its not on my horizon; I have no interest in developing my body into a marathoner's physique. I'm here to have fun, not channel my inner Rocky to actualize "about how hard (I) can get hit and keep moving forward."
In comparison to past years, I like how my current endurance program builds me to what lies ahead, but isn't the 2 hour slogging program of the past. Sure, I can pile up those lower-intensity workouts, and I can walk for hours because of them, but since we perform how we practice, I'm glad I'm running. And at today's 31 minute workout, it frees up the rest of the morning.
That said, I've been struggling to keep up my Python coding at 4AM. It's just not a solid time for high level thinking. Sure, it's a great time for planning or meditation, but I always feel like I'm running out of time for Python as my workout is on its heels.

I crushed it in today's workout. I even added an additional rep into my MaxiClimber closeout to MWF workouts, establishing a 3 x 3min MaxiClimber with 1min rests. I even had enough in my tank to know I could do a 4th. I still remember not too long ago when I was dying at just a minute in.
Call me Mystic Mac, but this looks like 2021 for me:
...and thanks to the Reface app, this video actually looks like me! I have no plans to go down to Conor's dehydrated 145 lb weigh-in, but with a target of 163, I'll be in the neighborhood.
I'm now into Day 50 on my carnivore diet and finishing up my first three weeks of The Yeard, my attempt to grow a beard without any trimming.
The New York Times

We're now ten days into the new year. While I didn't specifically spell this out, this move follows in the same direction I move: I've dropped my monthly fees for the UFC to pick up a subscription to the New York Times. It also is significant as a break from my 2020 position of ignoring all social and news medias. There is a large gap of what happened in 2020 that is blank to me and from what I heard, I'm better for it. However, I reconnected on election day and reaped what was sown.
I love watching MMA, of course, but I don't think another guillotine or arm bar is going to advance my knowledge on the subject as a spectator. Still, I cannot think of another option that inspires a mindless workout on my end.
...which is what I wrote for this blog post. I posted it and ran with it. But, as I read the news stories, I just didn't feel like me. And honestly, reading it just felt like I pulled clothes out of a pool and put them on. While I like the writing and its depth, the lack of relevancy and brooding mood was just a turn off. Fortunately, I signed up with PayPal so the cancellation will be easy, as their bot couldn't help me to cancel and apparently no one works there right now.
I very well may return to my UFC viewership. It inspires and brings joy.
Of course, sometimes you gotta go slow to move fast. While I had a MWF strength schedule with a TRSS endurance schedule, I'm pulling Sunday out of the lineup as a day of rest. Sure, I could have worked out, even my alarm woke me up at 3-something, but one day of relative rest might provide better gains.
In practice, I spent a bit of time on a ladder this morning cutting off power to electrical ballasts and installing direct power to new tube lights. Toggled makes a pretty cool product. I wish I knew about it before replacing the other 20 tubes in my gym.
