Underworld: Blood Wars (2017)

Thursday, June 7, 2018

I finished up the Underworld series. The movies are not as bad as the critics say—they're exactly what I would expect from a series with a female protagonist with a bunch of gunfire and martial arts amidst a roomful of vampires and werewolves. It's not exactly the vehicle for high brow drama. The series does get a bit repetitive, but I'm not sure if it is possible to go beyond its parameters. I would have liked to see it evolve further, but at what point does it become derivative of Ethan Hawke's Daybreakers?

I've absolutely hit a wall. I began feeling elements of it yesterday, but I just figured it was remnants of my fast-paced chest routine with cardio from the other day, something I'm feeling right now. It wasn't a complicated workout, just a 4×12 press & flies as inciine, bench, and decline—my muscles remain sore this morning. But no, the wall I'm pushing against is major fatigue, not taxed muscle (though it is sprinkling on top). I went to bed early—before sunset, yet at my 3:50AM alarm, I still dragged myself out of bed. And it was a spirit-challenge to push through the morning cardio. It wasn't the intense 2 hours that I want, but I'll take it as win, simply in that I went into the workout and didn't quit. It's a good streak to maintain: 52 planned morning workouts in a row. It's been six days a week. And that's not including the Sundays thrown in there, along with an armful of lunch workouts. But, the 4-6AM is the core. So, I've got that

It is very likely my new diet contributes to this, perhaps the drop from 30 to 20 net carbs, or 70+ total carbs to 43. I feel like I'm hydrating enough and I've upped my potassium from 100% to 112%. My sodium is 868mg when all I need is 500mg. I guess I'll just have to sit back and see how this will play out and see if there are any micro adjustments that are needed. On the plus side, since making this shift, I have yet to experience of wave of dizziness when I get up. I've been experiencing that for the last week or two on my last diet, maybe once or twice a day. It was no different from what I experienced in long term fasts. Back then, I would have to remind myself to take in a couple of quick deep breaths before moving, not unlike how a power lifter would prep. So in this new diet, another win there.

I remain in a bit of a transition. I wish I could burn all of this fat faster, but BMR can only do so much. And it's only June, the 4th Week of The Second Expedition.

Underworld Awakening (2012)

It's my Wednesday break amidst my pull-push resistance routine. I like the break because it gives my arms a chance to cool down. There's really no way to get around using my arms for an upper body workout, so they get plenty of opportunity to get their reps in...and if not, I blast them on Fridays.

I'll look back at my prior diet and think about how its was loaded with more nutrition and more protein than my current diet at 184 less calories. However, it has a drawback of maintenance (4 meals in 8 hours) and bulkage—chew, chew, chew...

My current diet excels at two critical things: only 2 meals in 8 hours—in practice its 5 hrs—AND price! Right now before taxes, it's $3.07/day and that includes 2 cups of Starbucks coffee ($0.48). And honestly, if it exceeds the RDA; what does it matter if its not the X-fold amounts of the other? There's also an intangible to the second diet: the ability to transform into other meals. The first was pretty straightforward.

As I have yet to list the ingredients to the second diet, here they are:

  • Soybeans, 4.4 oz
  • Green Tea, 2 cups
  • Almonds, 0.8 oz
  • Sunflower Seeds, 0.8 oz
  • Cinnamon, 1 tsp
  • Flax seeds, 3 tbsp
  • coffee, 2 cups
  • cheddar cheese, 3 oz
  • broccoli, 5.7 oz
  • eggs, 4
  • olive oil 1 tbsp
  • Original No Salt Alternative, 1.25 tsp (gimme some of that potassium chloride!) A s far as supplementation goes, I take a 1/4 tablet of 50mg tablet of zinc, 225mcg of iodine, and a quarter serving of Solgar's B-Complex Stress Formula—not for stress, because I'm "all right, all right, all right." I do it for B3 and to get my B6 and folate over the hump.

Of course, all of these numbers and items are subject to change. I'd like to bump its % of calories from fat from 65% to 70%, but I have yet to find the solution without adding calories. With calories, it's a brainless exercise.

The Workshop: My Home Gym

My elliptical points to the east, where the morning sunrise hits me as I make my strides. As I do, I think how the sun has just come from the Czech Republic, London and all of the places I love over there; swung down for some beach time in the Bahamas; and has stopped by my place for a visit.

In front of the cardio is my stereo receiver on a shelf with a repurposed computer display atop with two speakers behind it for my movie watching. The 2018 UofM football schedule adorns the wall. One day, I'm sub-200lbs and there will be a power tower in there.
