Driving Past Spatula City Toward New Macro City

Sunday, June 3, 2018

To kickoff Week 4 of The Second Expedition, I'm changing my macros. Now, in the past, I've discussed the importance of the micros—that hasn't changed. It's integral when going lower calories to that in order. I made sure my RDA is 100%, though I did take the liberty to pull down the fiber from 58 to 25. Now, both diets are low carb my first: sub-30 net carbs; and the new: sub-20. That said, macros made a huge switch:

1st Diet

  • Calories: 1234
  • % Calories from Protein: 28%
  • % Calories from Fat: 46%
  • % Calories from Carbohydrates: 26%

New Diet

  • Calories: 1418
  • % Calories from Protein: 24%
  • % Calories from Fat: 66%
  • % Calories from Carbohydrates: 11%

I'm seeking to move toward a meatless keto diet, though it may be impossible to bring the carbs down to 5% without some serious caloric buildup, which I'm disinterested. I'm just a couple of tablespoons of olive oil from making it 20% / 71% / 9%, but bringing the calories up to 1657 makes me nervous. I have to work really hard to lose 400 calories in the gym.

I continue with the daily intermittent fasting, albeit just my flax, almond, sunflower, soy protein shake for breakfast and a massive, 4-egg, 5.7oz broccoli, 3 oz cheddar cheese omelet for lunch.

Now it's almost noon and I won't eat again until after tomorrow morning's cardio.

I'm going to give this approach a whirl for a week or two and see if there's an added energy boost so that I can put more work into my workouts. I can always go back to my prior diet, but for now, I'm grateful for the less time spent chewing. Eating can be a distraction in our day.

Superman Returns (2006)

Saturday, June 2, 2018

Wow...Superman Returns. If I wanted to watch a relationship-driven piece, I would have picked up a chick flick. I guess all the spandex made him not so super...seriously, I had to just turn it off and shelve it. I'd usually save a movie for the next day if I don't finish it, not unlike what I did with American Made. But, geez, Superman: grow a pair. Ok, to be fair, I didn't watch the whole thing—does he grow chest hair in the second half? Maybe Kevin Spacey creeped me out. I don't know. I just know what I watched and it was so slow with old girlfriend drama. I don't care about your feelings, Superman...you're freakin' Superman—super strong, laser eyes, icy breath—YOU CAN FLY! Yet, here I am, watching some nonsense about meeting your ex's lover. great sigh

Hey, I have no problems with romantic films and rom-coms. I've watched every episode of Gilmore Girls several times. But, Superman: stay in your lane!

All of this reminds me of my need to prepare a movie schedule for my cardio mornings. I waste too much time in pulling movies—this time, one that ill suits my needs! When it comes to my mornings, I need about as much sophistication as Wesley Snipes punching Edward Cullen in the face.

I slogged through parts of this morning, not at the speed I would have liked. Before that, I woke up a little heavy and knocked over a fan. Then to have to workout through the above nonsense...well, it wasn't optimal. No, for my morning cardio, I don't need a lot of depth. In fact, I tend to stay away from my more favored movies just by the very nature of what I'm doing. For example, I don't think I'd enjoy Blade Runner 2049 or Crazy, Stupid, Love while I'm slinging the sweat.

All of it is just a bridge to get me to where I'm going. Of course, this is my last workout session for Week 3 of the Second Expedition. As the days pass, I grow more exhilarated thinking about the fall time and my higher capacities.

American Made (2017)

Friday, June 1, 2018

It's another Friday and another vitamin dispenser reset!

It's also...JUNE! I'm in the process of developing a summer playlist for when I sunbathe.

As the trailer above shows, I've got another Tom Cruise movie! We made one last run at the closing video rental because of a deal that's really hard to pass by: 20 movies for $10. That's $0.50 each! So, something like $75+ later, I've got a new hoard of DVD/Blu-Rays to type into my spreadsheet. Included in the mix is the entire series of Parks & Recreation, a relatively more expensive pickup as he charged $4 a TV season. I picked up a great boon for my morning cardio: 20+ UFC DVDs. I wanted action for my mornings, and I got it.

My morning cardio went awesome! It seems that I'm past that threat of inexplicable fatigue that I was experiencing, and perhaps my shift to the more-intensive-but-legs-saving resistance+cardio workout instead of pure cardio contributes to it? Or, it could be something as simple as now I'm hydrating before and during my workout—I wasn't doing that before when I drank more liquid afterward at breakfast. Or, was it just a barrier I had to smash through? I like the latter best.
