Underworld (2003)

Thursday, May 31, 2018

While visually appealing, I guess we don't watch Underworld for the dialogue. Then there's the one-note angry eyebrows guy who is the cinematic equivalent of nails on a chalkboard. That said, I do love films with an agile heroine, movies like this Underworld series, Resident Evil, various Scarlett Johansson movies, etc. And when I'm working out with my cardio in the morning, I really do need an action flick from some genre. If it gets slow, the clock's second hand gets caught in the mire.

I may have resolved my fatigue issue with my mornings. It wasn't a problem this morning (though my aching left foot resurfaced). I was able to sling out the sweat like I normally do. While I eliminated my typical later day cardio, I replaced it with a light cardio through most of the day to increase my metabolism along with a MTRF resistance lunch regimen. I'm also upping the cardio challenge by removing the bike from the mornings, and will rely strictly on full bodyweight, namely the elliptical and the treadmill, the latter as various angles exacerbates my foot if I already put an hour-and-a-half on the elliptical. I got around it this morning by upping the speeding and putting it at -1%. So while I am doing less, I am going to do much more

While whatever winds up on the scale is ultimately out of my control, I fully intend to smash my previous result. I'm looking to beat it from a percentage perspective, since that's fair, though if I can beat it outright by lbs, that would just be extra awesome blossom. That said, my diet is not fundamentally different than the First Expedition, though I'm hoping the coffee addition will boost metabolism. While exercise is integral, diet is critical. And if the diet isn't all that different, I fear the results may be...clearly the same. Those results were good, of course, and have led to a stronger cardio regimen. I just want...more.

Supercop (1992) and Aeon Flux (2005)

It's been another morning workout where fatigue smacked me down. I made it through to 6AM of course, but not that at the intensity I expect. It's a weird feeling: I know I haven't pushed myself today to reach that level of exhaustion. It's the same experience I've been stumbling through recently. It's like my first 5-minute bike warmup for that transition out of sleep. But, instead of it dissipating, it just stays with me as I slog through the entire time—maybe I can resolve it by sprinting in my warmup?

As much as I'd like to attribute it to my low-calorie-while-RDA-packed diet in context to my workouts so that I can switch to a higher calorie keto diet—as if my 30 net carb wasn't low enough―if I were to take an honest stab at it, I'd say my late cardio steals from the next morning's. I may have to dial back from my daily 3 hours of cardio and return to 2 hours. While the First Expedition had no issues, I did make changes this time around and my intermittent fasting might be the cause as well, considering that's 16 hours without food to empty the glucose stores and then follow it with two hours of intensity.

I don't know the cause, It may be just a weird place on this adventure. But, I'll try pulling back the cardio to see if it resolves since it's something I've already considered because I wanted to integrate resistance back into my training. I've been very pro on cardio of late, with a stance of if cardio is better for weightloss than resistance, then I just be more effective...but, if I can't keep up the intensity with the added cardio, it just makes sense to take another angle at training, and add the resistance. Though, I'd rather lift in the mornings than any other time, but that's my prime time. So, I'll be developing a resistance regimen to apply.

I'm trying out replacing the 16 oz water in my soymilk blend with coffee for its metabolic effects. I don't need it for alertness or anything. It does add a flavor to my drink that's fun.

X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)

Tuesday, May 29, 2018

I didn't realize I haven't seen X-Men: Apocalypse before this morning's workout. Honestly, the X-Men franchise has a tired plot: "Oh no, humanity hates us, but we gotta be good and band together to fight a big, bad man who is likely mutant or covets mutants." Its tread is running thin. I am drawn toward Wolverine, though I don't know if I'll start Logan tomorrow; beyond that, I wasn't able to purchase anymore of the series from the closing video rental store.

I had another morning where I ran into this block of fatigue. I completed my 2-hour workout, but it was like I was slogging through mud. When I felt the most stuck, I'd switch to a different piece of equipment. Lately, I've been wanting to spend the majority time on the elliptical, but this morning I rotated in the bike and climbed atop the treadmill at 4% until my foot ache pulled me back down. It's funny because when I workout after lunch, i know I will be fired up inside and will sweat like a sprinkler.

Not that I want to exclusively use this site for weightloss / health / bodybuilding, but it's what my focus has been on to achieve in this season of my life. Success begets success. This is all a start.

I'll be crossing the threshold of 40 years this summer and it does make me look back over my life, the places I've been, the people I've known. And while there are people who are my age who toss back prescriptions for their "ailments" and slowly fade into the still waters of entropy, that's not me. If I may adapt: "it's better to ache out than to fade away!"

I remain excited at the 2nd weigh-in date of June 25. I have the full expectation of blowing The First Expedition's 40 ½ lb loss out of the water. While that first six weeks was significant, I've done more in this 2nd thrust to that end. But, before I become too mesmerized by the near future, I gotta push through and reach today's gains.
